Programme profile
Today's business life demands graduates who are trained to look across borders and are familiar with working with people from different countries and cultures. This programme enables students to acquire wide knowledge of international management, organisation, marketing and finance. Furthermore, relevant professional skills like intercultural teamwork, planning and communication are developed. You will spend at lest a year abroad.
By extending your study abroad period, it is possible to opt for a Double Degree. This will give you a degree of Avans University of Applied Sciences and a degree of one of our partner institutes. The university has partners in the USA, Germany, France, Italy and the UK.
Within the programme, four majors are offered:
International Business Studies
You study international organisations, logistics and services. The International Business Studies major moulds you into an international business professional with expertise in international business
Asian Business Studies
The Asian Business Studies major focuses on the emerging Asian countries. Knowledge of ethics, culture, language, consumer behaviour and the Asian economy will make you an Asian business specialist. You will learn about Asian history and culture, as well as Asian business models, distribution structures and consumer behaviour. . You will receive intensive tuition in the Chinese language and culture, provided by Chinese lecturers. You will spend 1 semester at one of Avans' Asian partner institutes, and you will do a work placement and final assignment with a company active in the Asian market
Cross-Cultural Management and Languages
Cross-cultural Management and Languages teaches you how to conduct business and be mindful of cultural differences. You will learn Spanish and one other language (French, German, Italian or Chinese).
Your work placement must be in a country where the native language is the same as one of the languages you have chosen
Latin American Business Studies
This major focuses on the rapidly developing Latin American market. Acquiring expertise in the language, culture, history and economics will make you a business specialist in this sector.
Programme content
Foundation phase
In Year 1 you will gain basic knowledge that you will apply later. The topics focus on marketing, finance, statistics and business processes. You will do group projects and visit international companies. And you will practise business skills, such as how to conduct meetings and think creatively.
Advanced phase
Year 2 is about deepening and applying knowledge. You will take subjects like project management and corporate culture, and do a work placement. Year 3 deals with International Business Operations, focussing on law, supply chain, business and currency risks. You will follow an exchange programme or complete a minor to expand or deepen your knowledge and skills. The first semester of year 4 is about Strategic Business Decisions. In the second semester, you will do your graduation internship.
Progression
The university doesn't currently offer a related Masters programme, taught through English
