Programme profile

This is an interdisciplinary programme focusing on the cultural and social sciences of Europe. Empirical research methods as well as critical thinking enable students to work in interdisciplinary settings.

One of the particular features throughout this programme is its project-based application of scientific knowledge in the fields of research, journalism, art and scenography, or entrepreneurship. This prepares students for dealing with the practical challenges of their future careers.

Programme content

Students are introduced to the main area "Topics and Disciplines" (TD): How is Europe conceived and discussed in cultural studies and in social sciences? In the area "Doing Europe" (DE), they are introduced to scientific methodology as well as to the practical fields of research, journalism, art and scenography, or entrepreneurship, in which students might apply for practical training and jobs later on.

TD Subjects include:
- Society and Economy
- Art and Media
- Philosophy and Politics
- Culture and Education
- European Law

Students need to choose one of two focus topics in the third semester: either European Cultures or European Society. From then on, students must select ten modules within their chosen focus topic and four modules from the other focus topic
