Programme profile

Erasmus University College (EUC), opened in September 2013.

EUC offers a residential Liberal Arts & Sciences (LAS) programme in the city centre of Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Uniquely, it offers an Economics & Business Major [in association with the world-ranked Rotterdam School of Management] in addition to the three classic LAS Majors of Humanities, Life Sciences, and Social & Behavioural Sciences.

First year students learn exclusively via a Problem Based Learning approach in a series of interdisciplinary course and skills training “blocks.”, including multidisciplinary modules which are problem-based throughout. At the centre of this approach is EUC's hallmark: tutored groups of 10 students. To create a 24/7 academic environment, EUC students are required to work and live at tailor-made facilities in the centre of Rotterdam, centring on a beautifully restored historic building, Rotterdam’s former central library. Extra-curricular activities are as much part of the programme as attending lectures and tutorials.

Early Application Deadline: 15 February 2017, for an early decision

Note: EUC has a second start date in February (Application deadline: 1st December)

Programme content

EUC’s programme consists of up to 24 modules in three years. In the first year, you follow an 'Academic Core': 8 modules that "equip you with what every properly educated person needs to know about nature, life and society". Examples of themes include:

- Brain and Behaviour (combining Neuroscience, Psychology and Philosophy)
- Markets and Organisations (combining Economics, History and Business Administration)
- Art, Religion and Philosophy

In your second year, you'll start on one of four Majors: Economics & Humanities, Social & Behavioural  Sciences or Life Sciences. In the third, you'll continue your specialisation by choosing one out of twelve concentrations.

Breadth of knowledge is ensured by the interdisciplinary courses in the Academic Core, by the possibility to choose one or more Minors and elective courses and by the opportunity to participate in an exchange programme. Skills training is an integral part of all courses.

Finally, you will have to "prove your mastery" in an internship, a research project and/or a thesis.

EUC has an alternative start date every February [Application Deadline: 01 Nov]
