In this programme, students follow one of two tracks:

- Information Cultures OR
- New Media and Digital Culture

The programme is dedicated to the exploration of New Media and the pervasive production, distribution and use of information in today’s society, including all forms of Archives. In addition to established concepts from media studies and information studies, the programme applies and develops new research approaches like Digital Humanities and Digital Methods

Programme content


The Information Cultures track  is concerned with the cultures of information, information creation, management and use, as well as its social and political consequences. This track explores, in particular, the contemporary cultural and technical world in which information has become part of all our social interactions, mediated by new technologies.The programme consists of three closely connected areas: 
- Information beyond the institution, beyond the archive
-Information as metrics of social practice 
-Practical component.

The New Media and Digital Culture track is dedicated to the critical study of the impact of digital media on culture and society. It studies the new web and data cultures, and the respective apps, platform and devices. It has a strong focus on research techniques and methods for the critical study of digitally born objects and cultures.  The programme consists of three closely connected areas:
- Critical digital cultures and media theory
- Digital methods - Practical component

Entry Requirements


Three A-Levels

Scottish Students are required to have a SQC with 2 Advanced Highers and at least 4 Highers.
