Programme profile
The programme in Agribusiness and Business Administration was developed to meet the demand for graduates who can back up product knowledge with marketing skills - for traders with green fingers! Does the description fit you? Then you could make the grade as a purchaser for an international firm, or managing retail marketing for a cheese producer or fruit and vegetable supplier. Or how would you fancy life as import manager in the flower trade, travelling the world to find new markets and consolidate your customer base.
As the scale of the global economy increases, organising and regulating international trade becomes increasingly complex - especially in the food and agricultural sectors, where major changes are now taking place. This is a fascinating sector, where you consistently have to ensure the best possible match between products and target group. The programme focuses on trade, management and consultancy activities of businesses in the horticulture and food chains: purchasing and sales, import and export, production and logistics, marketing and quality management, transport and storage.
Programme content
Year 1 & 2: Your first year will give you an overall picture of your field. through covering subjects such as marketing, trade and purchase management and project planning. Your second year will start with a work placement at a business within the horticulture and food trade sector. The second term centres on two projects, one focusing on export opportunities in the fish sector, and one on customer service in the horticultural sector. You complete year two by setting up your own business and studying subjects such as food marketing, organisation theory, logistics, quality and cost management. During the first two years, you will choose a second foreign language: German or Spanish.
Years 3 & 4: you develop a complete export plan commissioned by a real company in the food and flower sector. You will also study strategic management, management of export, supply-chains, organisations and customer-relationships. The second half of the third year is spent on your six-month work placement somewhere outside The Netherlands. In year 4, you will do a graduation assignment with an international agribusiness organisation where you conduct and present research on an issue in your chosen field and sector. This culminates in your Thesis
